OBITUARY
MR. ARTHUR J. JACKA
The late Mr. Arthur James Jacka, of Grant Road, whose death occurred recently, belonged to one of Wellington''s oldest families. He was born in Wellington 77 years ago and was educated at the old Wesleyan day school, Dixon Street, which flourished for a few years before the Education Board schools were established. His father was a builder, and at one time had his business premises in Ghuznee Street.
The late Mr. Jacka was for many years employed in the Wellington- Manawatu Railway Co., and was afterwards in business on his own account. In his day Mr. Jacka was an excellent footballer and played a sound game at either full-back or three-quarter for the old Union Club. He was also an enthusiastic yachtsman, and a member of the crew of the Red Jacket, a noted yacht owned by Fred and Charles Gannaway. Later he sailed the Pet when she was owned by the late Mr. Jack Gibbons. He was also a prominent cricketer.
Mr. Jacka leaves a widow and two daughters, Mrs. Frank Sanders and Mrs. James Greig.
