The funerals of Mrs. E. Wakeham and Mr. Aaron Collett, two early and well-known settlers of the Wainui and Hutt districts, took place this afternoon. Mrs. Wakeham, who passed away at the Wai- nui-o-mata at the advanced age of 86, was the relict of the late Mr. William Wakeham, with whom she came to the colony over 50 years ago, arriving at Nelson. After a residence there of about two years, the family removed to Wellington, and thence early in the fifties to Wainui-o-mata, where the family have lived ever since, respected members of the community. Mr. John Wakeham, a member of the Hutt County Council, is the deceased''s son. Mr. Aaron Collett, a son of the late Mr. Henry Collett, one of the earliest settlers, was born at Petone nearly 48 years ago. The deceased and his brother conducted for a number of years the well-known coach building and farriery business at the Hutt. Deceased was a prominent Oddfellow.
