Mrs. James Collett, of the Hutt road, Petone, who died last Tuesday, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. (sic) Fox, who were well-known residents of Taita, Mrs. Fox being one of the first children born in the Hutt Valley. Mrs. Collett was born at Stokes Valley sixty-five years ago, and had resided in the Hutt Valley all her life, her home being in Petone since she married Mr. James Collett forty-five years ago. Mr. Collett was also born in the same district. Though she had been in ill-health for some time, her death was nevertheless unexpected. Her husband, two daughters, and two sons survive her — Mrs. Ball and Mr. James Collett, both of Petone; Mr. H. Collett, of Raglan; and Mrs. Hansen, of Petone. There are ten grandchildren. The funeral took place to-day at Anglican Churchyard, Taita.

There died yesterday at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Bull, Hutt road, Petone, Mr. James. Collett, who has been a well-known resident of Petone for many years. He was born within a stone''s throw of the place where he died, in 1846, and so must have been among the first white children born in the district. During the whole of his life he never left Petone. He was best known as the borough foreman, a position which he held about twenty years ago, since when he has lived in retirement. His wife predeceased him, and he leaves two sons, Messrs. J. Collett and H. Collett, and two daughters, Mesdames Bull and Hansen, all of Petone. There are ten grandchildren.
