SUDDEN DEATH AT MUNGAROA.
The death occurred at Mungaroa yesterday of an old resident of the Hutt Valley in the person of Mr. Francis Whiteman, at the age of 59 years. The circumstances of his death are unusually sad. On the Tuesday evening, while returning home from Akatarawa (where he is part owner of a sawmill) to attend the wedding of one of his daughters, which was to take place on the day following, he was seized, it is supposed, with a paralytic fit, and thrown from his horse. When picked up he was found to be unconscious, in. which state he lingered on for some hours, and then died. It was not deemed necessary to hold an inquest, a doctor''s certificate being furnished as to cause of death. The wedding ceremony was postponed. Deceased was widely known throughout the valley, his father, the late Mr. George Whiteman, having been one of the pioneer settlers of the district. One of his brothers is Mr. John Whiteman chairman of the Hutt County Council.
