WEDDING BELLS.
Welch — King
A popular wedding took place at St. Matthew''s Church, Masterton, this morning, the contracting parties being Mr Arthur Reynolds Welch, youngest son of the late Mr H. Welch, of Opaki, and Miss Edith Emma King, second daughter of Mr Frederick King, builder, of Masterton. The service was fully choral, and Rev. Sanders Spencer was the officiating clergyman. Mr C. King acted as best man, and Mr W. King was groomsman. The bride wore a dress of oriental satin, trimmed with chiffon and lace, with usual veil and orange blossom, and carried a beautiful shower boquet (sic), the gift of the bridegroom. She was attended by two bridesmaids, Misses A. King and Pearl McLauchlin, attired in white muslin, prettily trimmed with lace and insertion. They also carried boquets (sic) of red berries, and autumn leaves, and wore large red silk hats. The bridegroom''s gift to the bride was a cable bangle, and to the bridesmaids gold and sapphire brooches. The bride''s travelling costume was navy blue cloth, with picture hat of white velvet. Mrs Welch, mother of the bridegroom, wore black silk voile, blue and black bonnet, and black sequin mantle. The bride''s mother was dressed in handsome black cloth, trimmed with silk medallions and chiffon, and wore a black chiffon hat, trimmed with violets and feathers.
The presents were both numerous and costly. After the ceremony about one hundred invited guests sat down to the wedding breakfast - the catering for which was carried out by Messrs Evernden and Pateman - at the Foresters'' Hall. The cake, a three-decker, was supplied by Mr C. Winchester, and was a distinct credit to his establishment. The table was very prettily set out, and was greatly admired. Mr and Mrs Welch left by the mid-day train for Napier, where the honeymoon is to be spent.
