STEWART — HANSELL
A wedding of wide interest took place at the picturesque church, St. Mary''s, at Karori, recently, when Ethel Gwendoline (sic), daughter of the Ven. Archdeacon A. L. Hansell and Mrs. Hansell, of Karori, was married to Robert Arnold Stewart, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Stewart, of South Canterbury. The church was tastefully decorated with arum lilies. The ceremony was performed by the Rt. Rev. the Bishop of Wellington (this being the first, time he has so officiated since his arrival in New Zealand), and he was assisted by the Rev. M. Kempthorne. Mr. Cecil Hayes at the organ supplied the suitable wedding music. The charm of velvet was seen in the classically-cut gown worn by the bride, this being trained, and ivory in colour, worn with a beautiful old Honiton lace veil, a family heirloom. She carried a sheaf of arum lilies and lilies of the valley, completing an artistic effect. The bridesmaid, Miss Margaret Bouillon, wore powder blue velvet, and carried a bouquet of pale yellow azaleas. Two little maids, Margaret and Joy Davies, were flower girls, and wore sashed frocks to match that of the bridesmaid''s. They had primrose circlets in their hair, and carried posies of the same charming flowers. The Rev. Alexander Salmond was best man.
The wedding reception was held at the Pioneer Club, which was charmingly decorated with flowers for the occasion. Mrs. Hansell (mother of the bride) wore a black lace redingote over a smart black frock which had touches of ecru, her bouquet being of lilies of the valley. Mrs. Stewart (mother of the bridegroom) was in black Virginian crepe trimmed with gold colour, her bouquet being of freesias and lily of the valley.
After the reception the bride and bridegroom left for a tour, the bride wearing a navy blue ensemble and matching straw toque. They will make their future home at Simla Crescent, Khandallah.
