Pilcher, Fanny
Evening Post 1 May 1926
A well-known and respected resident of the Lower Hutt, Mrs. Caroline Swain, wife of Mr. Samuel Swain, passed away on 27th April, after a very brief illness. Born in Lower Hutt fifty-one years ago, she was the third daughter of the late Mr. John Pilcher, who arrived in Wellington in the early ''60 s, and, after spending a short time in Wellington, went to Australia during the gold rush at Bendigo. After spending many months on the goldfields, he returned to Wellington, where he married and finally settled in the Hutt Valley. The late Mrs. Swain was of a very kindly disposition, and will be mourned by a large circle of relatives and friends. She leaves a husband and a family of six sons, Mr. Arthur H. (sic) J. Swain, of the Money Order and Savings Bank, Chief Post Office, Wellington, Mr. Albert Swain, railway workshops, Petone, and Messrs. William, Frederick, Leonard, and Percy Swain, of Lower Hutt, and two daughters, Misses May and Dulcie Swain, of Lower Hutt; also five brothers, Messrs. John, William, Henry, and Frederick Pilcher, of Lower Hutt, and Mr. George Pilcher of Waingawa, and five sisters, Mrs. F. Gilbert, Mrs. E. Mudgway, Mrs. N. Watkins, of Lower Hutt, Mrs. A. Swain, of Silverstream, and Mrs. E. Hodgkins, of Auckland.
