Evening Post 13 September 1883
The remains of the late Seaman F. Percy, of the Petone Naval Artillery, were interred in the Taita cemetery yesterday afternoon with military honours. Detachments of the Wellington Naval Artillery and the Guards, under the command of Lieutenant Hislop and Captain Loveday respectively, together with Mr. Cimino''s band, proceeded out to Petone by the 2.5 o''clock train, and on arriving at the station were joined by the Petone bluejackets, under the command of Lieutenant Buick. The mournful cortege left the late residence of the deceased about 3 o''clock and proceeded to the burial-ground at the Taita, where the body was interred with all the honours accorded to a dead volunteer. The beautiful and impressive service of the Church of England was read at the grave by the Ven. Archdeacon Stock, assisted by the local clergyman. The funeral was the largest that has taken place at the Hutt for several years past.
