Evening Post 27 March 1893
FATAL ACCIDENT.
A CHILD KILLED WHILE PLAYING.
A terrible accident occurred at the Nai Nai (sic) yesterday afternoon, the victim being a bright little fellow of ten (sic) years named Edward Peck, son of Mr. George Peck, a farmer in that district. It appears that after dinner the boy and two brothers went on to Mr. George Bowring''s property close by, and commenced to play with a waterwheel there. Edward Peck had been inside the wheel, which he had caused to revolve by climbing up on the buckets, and was in the act of stepping out when he slipped and met with an instantaneous death, his right ear being torn off and his head fearfully crushed. Dr. Whitehead was called in, and on arrival he pronounced that the boy had been killed almost instantly. Constable Cruickshank is arranging for an inquest.
