Evening Post 1 October 1925
BOWATER.- On the 27th September, 1925, at Palmerston North Hospital, William Henry, dearly beloved husband of Fanny Bowater, of Sanson, and father of Cecil Bowater, 13 Riddler''s crescent, Petone, in his 73rd year
The late Mr. William Henry Bowater, whose death occurred at the Palmerston North Hospital on Sunday, was one of the very early settlers of the Sanson district. The deceased gentleman, who at the time of his death was 73 years of age, was born in Cardiff, Wales, and as a child came out with his parents to Melbourne, the family crossing the Tasman sixty years ago to settle in Wellington. During his residence in Wellington the late Mr. Bowater was prominently associated with the Volunteer movement in general and with the D Battery in particular. Many old identities will remember the hauling of the cannon to the top of Mount Victoria, Mr. Bowater being one of the team. He was a good marksman, and achieved honours in that connection as a Cadet. About 1877 the family moved to Sanson. There are left to mourn their loss an invalid widow, two sons, Harold, of the Waikato, and Cecil, of Petone, and one daughter, Ethel. The funeral took place at Sanson yesterday.
