Messrs. W. s. Milne, T. Hancock, W. Kilmister, and Mrs. M. Ross, of Taita, forwarded a petition protesting against the renewal of Messrs. Gadsby Bros.'' slaughterhouse license, on the grounds of danger to public health and depreciation in the value of neighbouring properties. The Inspector of Slaughterhouses said there could be no doubt the establishment was in an unsuitable position as regards drainage and water supply, and the driving of cattle to it was dangerous to school children. Councillor Brown testified to the general cleaniness of the premises. The Inspector was instructed to report on the subject at next meeting in conjunction with Councillors Speedy, Brown, Wakeham, and Darby.

EPUNI LICENSING DISTRICT
NOTICE is hereby given that an election will be held on Friday, the 24th day of February, 1888, for the purpose of electing five members for the Epuni Licensing District.
Nomination papers must be delivered before 12 o''clock non of Wednesday, the 15th day of February, 1888, at the house of Messrs. Gadsby Bros., Taita, addressed to me.
Nomination papers can be obtained at the office of the Hutt County Council or from the undersigned.
