The death of the young man Edwards on the Wairarapa train last week created a great sensation amongst the passengers, and at Featherston, says the Leader, the doctor who was called to see if there was really any chance, had literally to fight his way to the corpse through a crowd of curious spectators.

Death on A Train.— The death of the young man Edwards, which took place in the train between Wellington and Carterton last week, was the result of a blood vessel bursting through a fit of coughing. The Leader, in describing the sad affair, said Edwards suffered from consumption. At Kaitoke he indulged in a smoke, which brought about a fit of coughing. As the train neared Cross''s Creek, Edwards commenced coughing again, and, after a time went into the lavatory. He continued to cough, and called his wife, who immediately went to his assistance. The paroxysm gradually became worse, and the little woman, who throughout the trying ordeal showed the greatest fortitude, cried for help to Mr Armstrong, a Carterton resident, who was on the train. I rushed to the lavatory," said Mr Armstrong, "and took the poor fellow from his wife. He was bending over the basin, and the blood was gushing from his mouth, and I held him until his hands dropped white and nerveless by his side. We carried him into the carriage and found that he was dead. The train had not then reached Pigeon Bush, and as Edwards lay on the floor a passenger placed a cushion beneath his head."
