The Coroner, Mr. Robinson, R.M. held an inquest at the Ngahauranga Inn this moming regarding the unexpected death of John Edwards, of Taita, which was recorded yesterday. Mr. Thomas Bould was foreman of the jury. Dr. Cahill stated that from a post mortem examination of the body he concluded that death was owing to fatty degeneration of the heart, of long standing. The other internal organs also showed signs of degeneration of the same kind. Thomas William Clapham deposed that the deceased had been staying at his inn. He was at work all day on Thursday, and in the evening went to sleep on the sofa. Witness tried to rouse him to go to bed, but did not succeed, so he left him, after raising him up a little. The deceased was perfectly sober when he went to sleep. The next morning he was found lying in nearly the position in which he had been left the previous night, but was dead. He was about 56 years old, and had never complained of ill health. The jury returned a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence.
