OBITUARY.
DEATH OF MR. STEPHEN AVERY.
Another of the pioneer settlers passed away on Monday in the, person of Mr Stephen Avery. Deceased had not been in good health for some time. He came to this Colony with his parents in the year 1840, arriving at Port Nicholson (now Wellington) by the ship Bolton. He resided at the Hutt for some time, and afterwards came to this district, haying resided at Richmond for about thirty-two years. He took a keen interest in local affairs, was a member of the Richmond School Committee, also of the Nelson Agricultural and Pastoral Association from its institution. He served well and faithfully on the Committee of the latter Association, rendering valuable services on the Show days, his excellent knowledge of horses and other live stock being acknowledged. He lived a good life, and was much esteemed by those who knew him. His widow and family have the sympathy of their fellow settlers, also his two sisters, Mrs I. M. Hill, of this city, and Mrs Charles Saywell, of Richmond. The funeral will take place this afternoon, at half-past two, when no doubt there will be a large following.
