From the statement of Wm. Kilmister, bankrupt, it appears that he began farming at the Taita 12 years ago on 3 1/2 acres, paying his way for some five years, when he met with a severe accident to his leg. During the time he was laid up the farm was neglected and cows dying for want of attention, debts accumulated, and payments got behind. Unable for nearly 12 months to do heavy work, bankrupt found himself hampered and pressed on all sides, and bad seasons and crops and family sickness threw him back further still. His present position was due to these things, and latterly he had been pressed for payment of debts by creditors, one of wnom had had him arrested and confined in the Terrace Gaol, and so compelled him to seek the protection of the Bankruptcy Court. The total debts amount to £207 10s 10d, and the assets £95, the principal unsecured creditors being J. Avery, Taita, £83 10s, and Thomas Avery, Pahiatua, £24.
