query Cemetery
Evening Post 20 August 1901
The cemetery question was again discussed by the Hutt Borough Council last night, apropos of a report by Dr. Purdy, in which he expressed, the opinion that on no account should existing graves in the Borough cemeteries be reopened. The Council, in discussing the report, considered it somewhat indefinite. Attention was called to Dr. Mason”s remarks at the last meeting of the Council, when he stated that at least one cemetery should be closed. The Mayor expressed the opinion that if it was necessary to close one cemetery it might be found advisable to have them all closed. Before this could be done it was necessary that the Health Officer should report to that effect. It was decided to write to the Health Officer for a definite report as to the advisability of closing the Wesleyan or other cemeteries.
