I, EZEKIEL FAKE, of Epsom, near the City of Auckland, in New Zealand, Gentleman, do hereby, give notice that on and after the first day of November, one thousand nine hundred and four, on behalf of myself and Mary Ann Fake, my wife, and my present and any future born children the surname of Melvern will be assumed, taken, and adopted, in addition to the name of Ezekiel Fake, by which I have been heretofore called, and known, and that at all times hereafter the name of Ezekiel Fake Melvern will alone be used and adopted by me and them in all transactions, documents, and writings, and all legal and other proceedings and matters. And 1 further give notice a duplicate of this Notice has been filed in the Supreme Court Office at Auckland, New Zealand. MELVERN.-On July 23, 1940, at his residence, 25 Claude Road, Epsom, Ezekiel, dearly beloved husband of Mary, and loved father of D. Melvern, and Mrs. J. B. Grove and O. J. Melvern, in his 92nd year.

CONSTABULARY SERVICE
An old colonist and former member of the Armed Constabulary, Mr. Ezekiel F. Melvern, died at his home in Claude Road, Epsom, yesterday, aged 91. Mr. Melvern was born at Norwich, England, where he was apprenticed to a chemist. He followed that occupation for some years in London and New York, and after returning to Norfolk he decided to emigrate to New Zealand.
Arriving at Auckland in 1877, he obtained employment with a chemist at Nelson, but soon after joined the Armed Constabulary at Wellington for clerical duties. In the course of ten years with the force, Mr. Melvern Was promoted to be hospital sergeant, on which duty his pharmaceutical experience was of much value. He was stationed at a number of posts in native districts, particularly in Taranaki, and spent some time at Parihaka, the scene of trouble with Te Whiti. In 1888 he returned to civil life and established a business as a chemist at Hawera, where he became a borough councillor. Retiring in 1903, he made his home in Auckland. Mr. Melvern is survived by his wife, a son. Mr. O. J. Melvern, and two daughters. There are eight- grandchildren.
