DEATH OF MR. WM. TUSTIN
The announcement that Mr. William Tustin, an old and respected resident of Wellington, has passed over to the great majority, will be received with deep regret by many of our readers. Mr. Tustin had suffered from Bright''s disease for the past two years, and six weeks ago he also experienced a paralytic stroke while stopping at Palmerston on his way to visit his son Joseph, who is living in Wanganui. On Saturday night he had another shock, and gradually sank, breathing his last at his residence in Pirie-street yesterday evening, surrounded by his wife and family. The deceased gentleman was born in Sheffield, and was brought up as a painter and paperhanger. In 1859 he came out to New Zealand, and began business in Willis-street in his own line. Being an excellent tradesman and possessed of great perseverance he gradually worked up a large business, and remained at the head of the establishment until six years ago, when he retired in favour of his two eldest sons, Mr. J. D. Tustin severed his connection with the house about two years ago, on account of ill-health, and is now living in Wanganui, leaving Mr. William G. Tustin to carry it on. The late Mr. Tustin always evinced an interest in local politics, but it was through his connection with Wesley Church and the Mount Cook School Committee that he was best known. The affairs of the church in question always received his closest attention, and there was no movement in connection with its welfare with which he was not prominently connected. During the past 20 years he had held various offices in connection with the church, and made liberal donations to the funds. As a member of the Mount Cook School Committee in former years, he also did good service. The deceased has left a widow and five children three sons and two daughters — and ten grandchildren. The oldest son, who now carries on the business, came out from England with his father in 1859 as a child. The second son, Mr. J. D. Tustin, lives in Wanganui, and the youngest, Mr. C. E. Tustin, is a cabinetmaker in the city. The daughters are not married. The late Mr. Tustin was attended in his last illness by Drs. Grace and Martin. His life was insured in the Government Office for £1000, and next year the amount would have been payable to him had he lived, the endowment policy only having some months to run. The deceased was a good citizen, one always willing to assist in cases of distress, and he proved himself a model husband and father. His ago was 58. The funeral takes place tomorrow morning.

Evening Post 20 May 1892
The mortal remains of the late Mr. William Tustin were interred in the Wesleyan portion of the Karori Cemetery this morning. The coffin was conveyed from the deceased''s late residence in Pirie-street to Wesley Church, where a short service was conducted by the Revs. J. J. Lewis and W. Beck. Four of the late Mr. Tustin''s old employes officiated as pall-bearers and a large number of residents of Wellington and the country districts paid a last tribute of respect. The service at the grave was conducted by the Rev. Mr. Lewis. The deceased''s three sons and a grandson were the chief mourners.
