MOTOR-CAR GOES OVER BANK
A MAN DROWNED.
(BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.)
WOODVILLE, This Day.
There was a motor-car accident in the Manawatu Gorge at 10.20 last night, resulting in the death by drowning of Ambrose Tremewan, of Shannon. A party of three - Tremewan, William M''Kegg, and John King, a returned soldier — was one (sic) its way to Hastings, and when about one and a-half miles from the Upper Gorge Bridge the car ran into some boulders, the steering gear being interfered with in such a way as to cause the car to go over a bank. King jumped out on to the road, McKegg got clear about half-way down, but Tremewan was carried into the river by the car. Apparently Tremewan got away from the car shortly after reaching the water. McKegg and King saw him floating down-stream. They called out, and he answered, but immediately disappeared. So far the body has not been recovered.

A search in the Manawatu river resulted in the recovery of the body of T. H. Ambrose Tremewan, aged 44, of Shannon, the victim of a recent motor mishap in the Gorge.
NZ Truth 6 July 1918
The sad accident which resulted in the death of Mr. A. Tremewan, owner of Powder Fox, was the one topic of conversation in Shannon last week. Mr. W. McKegg, owner of Utuwai was also a passenger in the car, but happily escaped injury.
