Obituary
C. G. Rees
The many friends of Mr C. G. Rees will regret to hear of his death, which occurred at Lower Hutt last evening. Mr Rees was well-known as a mile runner, and won the championship in February, 1893. He competed in many meetings, and was very popular among athletics. Mr Rees worked in the Records Office, Wellington. He leaves a wife and three (sic) children. Deceased was a cousin of Mr W. G. Grace, the famous cricketer.

The funeral of the late Mr. Charles Gilbert Rees, of the Lower Hutt, was largely attended on Saturday afternoon. The deceased was an officer of the Education Department for nine years up to the time of his death, and amongst those who attended the funeral were Sir Edward 0. Gibbes, Mr. G. Hogben, and other officers of the department. Mr. L. G. Reid (Assistant Crown Law Officer), Mr. Rutherford (Public Works Department), and also representatives of other branches of the Civil Service. The Rev. J. Jones conducted the burial service at the Taita cemetery. The deceased gentleman was a son of the late Mr. W. G. Rees, of the Stock Department, and was born in the Wakatipu district thirty-nine years ago. Prior to joining the Education Department he was in the Survey Department, which he entered after leaving one of the New Zealand banks. He was a noted athlete and a very successful cricketer. He was nephew of Mr. W. J. Rees, solicitor, Gisborne, and also a relative of the celebrated Dr. W. G. Grace. Mrs. Rees is left with two (sic) young children.
