New Zealand Gazette and Wellington Spectator 10 July 1841
WE, the undersigned Emigrants by the Katherinc Stewart Forbes, are desirous to convey our warmest gratitude to Captain Hobbs for the anxious solicitude evinced by him for our safety, during a tedious and perilous voyage from England to New Zealand. We are the more desirous of testifying our sense of his kindness, because he had in many instances interposed when others in a minor charge attempted to destroy our peace and quiet. We would also add that the discipline and seamanship displayed by Captain Hobbs has entirely secured our respect and admiration.
We also tender our thanks to the chief and second mates, for their united civility and kindness during the voyage.

Evening Post 5 August 1887
Death of an Old Settler.
Mr. Daniel Peck, one of the few remaining pioneer settlers of the province, died suddenly last evening when driving home from the Lower Hutt to the Naiwai (sic) with his sons John and George Peck. The deceased arrived in Wellington in the Catherine Stuart Forbes in 1841, and since that time had resided in the Hutt district. He leaves a widow and a family of fourteen sons and daughters, and no less than 102 (sic) grand and great grandchildren, who are nearly all residing in the provincial district. During his long career as a farmer Mr. Peck had amassed considerable means, and for some time past had ceased to take any active part in the work of the farm, but was still a hale and hearty old gentleman, and when be left home yesterday morning was apparently in good health. Dr. Whitehead waa called in to see deceased, and apoplexy was said to be the probable cause of death. It is not yet known whether an inquest will be necessary, but a report has been sent to the Coronor by Constable Harnett.
