Evening Post 4 December 1902
Mr. Frank Mountain, whose death is announced to-day, was well known to the older settlers in the Wellington district. The deceased, who was a native of England, went out to Australia when quite a youth, and experienced me vicissitudes common to most people who were on the early gold diggings. He arrived in New Zealand under engagement to Mr. Hastwell, the well-known coach proprietor, and was for many years employed in the coaching service between Wellington and the Wairarapa. Leaving the road, he took the Travellers'' Rest Hotel at the Taita, and afterwards he became licensee of a hotel at Greytown. He then took up his permanent residence in Wellington, and built and conducted Tattersall''s (now the Cambridge) Hotel in Cambridge-terrace. Subsequently he Was in possession of the New Zealander Hotel, Manners-street, and still later he occupied a responsible position with the Wellington Tramway Company. Of late years he had been in feeble health, and his death, which occurred at his residence in Adelaide-road last night, was not unexpected. He was about 70 years of age. Deceased has left a widow and a grown-up family of four.
