A very well-known residence of Mataura died this week in the person of Mr Adam Grierson, who was born in Bishopton, Kircudbrightshire, Scotland, in 1844. He came to New Zealand in 1879 by the s.s. Kent, and in 1881 joined the New Zealand Railway Department, being stationed first at Lawrence, than at Pelichet Bay, and in 1885 was permanently appointed station master at Mataura, retiring on superannuation about eight years ago. Latterly deceased has acted as accountant for Messrs Beattie and Coster, coal proprietors. He married the daughter of Mr J. C. McGregor (sic), town clerk of Mataura, and is survived by a family of two sons and three daughters, both sons being at the front.
