We regret to record the death of Mr George Henry Hirst, which occurred yesterday at his residence, Konini, Pahiatua, at the age of 66 years.

Mr G. H. Hirst, whose death, at Konini, we announced yesterday, was a native of Yorkshire, arriving with his parents in the ship George Fife at Wellington in 1842 - the same vessel that brought Sir William Fox to New Zealand. After living at the Taita and the Hutt for some years, young Hirst removed to Sandon, wnere he engaged in farming pursuits for about nineteen years, eventually removing to the Palmerston district, in which he lived for about fifteen years. He leaves a widow and family of ten, five sons and five daughters. The daughters are Mrs J. Kennedy (Hastings), Mrs J. Windle (Masterton), Mrs A. Cameron (Kakaramea, Taranaki), Mrs R. McCardle (Raglan), and Miss Florence Hirst (Konini). The sons are Mr Herbert Hirst (Eketahuna), and Messrs H., A., Walter and Albert Hirst (Konini).
