FOUND DEAD.
A FARMER AT UPPER TUTAENUI
VERDICT OF DEATH FROM A BROKEN NECK
An inquest was held by Mr J. J. McDonald, Coroner, on the death of Mr William Ebden, farmer, of Upper Tutaenui, who was found dead in a paddock, having apparently fallen from his cart.
Evidence was given by Dr. Crawford to the effect that he was called to the body of deceased, lying in a paddock fully clothed. There was a large bruise above the temple, and the body was cold, death having evidently occurred some hours before.
George Ebden, brother of deceased, said that he left him milking at 7.45 a.m.. and went to Pattie''s to cut chaff. On coming home in the evening he found the cart and horse at the backdoor, and saw the body lying in the paddock. His brother had been in the habit of standing up when driving, and had fallen out of the cart once before when going to the factory. The horse was a quiet one, and had been driven to the factory. His life was not insured.
Evidence was also given by Alfred Shurstron, who returned to the house with George Ebden, confirming his evidence, and by Frank Giles, a boy of 12, who had gone to the factory with deceased in the morning.
A verdict was returned that deceased had broken his neck by falling from his dray.
