APPEALS FOR EXEMPTION
...
A FARMER''S DIFFICULTY.
Herbert W. L. Drewitt, farm manager, Paraparaumu, applied for exemption on the ground of undue hardship. He had he said, two sisters and a brother living with him. His brother was a returned soldier, still suffering from the effects of wounds. Another brother was at the front, and another married living at Paekakariki. He had just been called up.
Mr. Hay (Public Trust Office), appeared for the appellant, who said that since his case was last before the Board his mother had died and the family would probably want the farm to be sold up. Levin and Co. had the matter in hand, and were looking for offers. There did not appear to be any prospect of a sale at the present time.
Captain Baldwin: Why?
Appellant: People are too frightenea to buy at the present time.
The hearing of the case was adjourned
