OF PERSONAL INTEREST.
We regret to record the death of a very old and highly esteemed colonist, Mr George Death, J.P., who passed, away at his residence, Auckland, on Wednesday morning. ''Deceased (reports the Patea Press) arrived at Wellington in 1856 by the Hastings, and started farming shortly after at the Hutt, and from there shifted to Wellington, where he kept the Coach and Horses, Hotel for about three years. He then shifted to Rangitikei in 1867, where he took to farming pursuits, and remained there till 1884, when he removed to Whenuakura. He was a member of the Patea County Council, for ten years, and filled many offices on local bodies. He removed to Waverley in 1891, where he resided for some time, and removed to Auckland about nine years ago, where he passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning after a long and painful illness. He leaves a widow, ten sons, and three daughters to mourn their loss. Three sons Messrs T. Death, J. C. Death, and F. C. Death — live in this district. George Death was the second son of George Death, farmer, of Drinkstone, Suffolk, was born on June 3, 1831, and was educated at Woolpitt.
