Wellington Independent 7 September 1860
Fatal Accident.— On Tuesday morning while a party of workmen were at work clearing away some slips at the Gorges, some rock fell upon a young man named Henry (sic) Canning and produced concussion of the brain. The unfortunate man was immediately removed to a cottage close by, and was attended throughout the day by Dr. Boor of the Hutt. He continued insensible from the time of the accident to that of his death, which took place during the night. He leaves a young wife, for whom great sympathy is felt.
