AUCKLAND, 19th October
A verdict of suicide while in a state of severe mental depression was returned by the Coroner at an inquest regarding the death of Herbert Avery, retired farmer, aged 49, who was found with his throat cut at Devonport. He believed that he was suffering from cancer, and the finding of the skeleton of an infant under his residence worried him considerably.
